In the business since 1971
LOCKE ACADEMY was founded by Chan Weng Kit.
The school adopted the name from the philosopher John Locke.
During the 70's, there weren't many private schools around Negeri Sembilan, especially those that provided A Levels and GCSE for students who are wanting to further their studies. Seeing this potential, he availed this opportunity to start his own private school in 1971, shortly after graduating from the University of Malaya.
It was soon after that he had a foresight to further facilitate for his students, and so moved the school into a bigger premise which was located in the outskirts of Seremban, a village called Temiang.
Despite his efforts of establishing a campus, he struggled to maintain students duly because Temiang was at that time a notorious and dangerous neighborhood. Very truly it was by God’s grace that my Dad was able to recover by moving back into the town center with an appraising lead in Wisma MCA as an anchor tenant.
Ever since then for the past decades, LOCKE ACADEMY has been consistently producing results in accounting courses in which many of the students achieved internationally acclaimed medals.
The establishment has recently moved location into Centerpoint
Seremban since July 2018 soon after my dad's passing.
As heirs, my wife Pearl (second from right) and I was moved to continue “Serving the people through education.”. We believe that the kind of passion we have seen in Dad's persevering character and heart for education is a legacy worth keeping.
